Weather: Looks sunny from my window
Readings: Ruth, all chapters
“But Ruth said, ‘Don’t force me to leave you; don’t make me go home. Where you go, I go, where you live, I’ll live. Your people are my people, your God is my god; where you die, I’ll die, and that’s where I’ll be buried, so help me God – not even death itself is going to come between us!’ ”
- Ruth displayed an incredible amount of faith in this verse. Here she is a recent widow and living in a foreign land. She has no obligation to stay with her destitute mother-in-law, Naomi, and yet she turns down the opportunity to go home to her people. She stays faithful not only to Naomi, a foreigner to her, but to God, a foreign god to her.
- Later on in the chapter, God rewards her immensely for this choice. She finds a new husband and becomes the great-grandmother to David.
I had the day to myself yesterday. After a busy weekend it was just what I needed. I’ve been slacking on my daily prayer the past couple days, but I did manage to stretch. Now that I’m refreshed I’m hoping to get back on track today.
