Time: 8:12 AM

Weather: Looks cloudy

Readings: 1 Samuel, chapters 16-20

Noteworthy Verse:

“But God said to Samuel, ‘Looks aren’t everything.  Don’t be impressed with his looks and stature.  I’ve already eliminated him.  God judges persons differently than humans do.  Men and women look at the face, God looks into the heart.’ ”

1 Samuel 16:7

Significance:

  • In this verse Samuel is getting ready to anoint David, son of Jesse, as the King of Israel who will replace Saul.  David was the runt of the family and no one was suspecting that he would make a good King.
  • This verse reinforces the idea that looks aren’t everything.  In today’s society we are often tempted to value a person by their looks, but it’s important to remember that God cares about much more than that.  While looks may fade, a soul that belives in Christ can live forever.

Feelings:
I prayed and stretch for 30 minutes each yesterday – and I’m feeling pretty good.  I have two friends visiting me tonight after work.  I pray that our fellowship will leave each of us feeling encouraged 🙂
