“And then this happened: Elijah the Tishbite, from among the settlers of Gilead, confronted Ahab: ‘As surely as God lives, the God of Israel before whom I stand in obedient service, the next years are going to see a total drought – not a drop of dew or rain unless I say otherwise.’ ”
1 Kings 17:1
- During this time God was very angry with the Israelites for worshiping and creating altars for the false god Baal. Baal was known as the god of thunderstorms, fertility, and agriculture. So when God sent a drought to the land He was asserting his power and might – especially over the false god Baal. There is no rain, let alone thunderstorms, during a drought, which means fertility and agriculture would suffer severely.
I’m feeling exhausted this morning, I may have been sacrificing sleep too much lately. This afternoon I’m going to visit my friend Krystyna to help her celebrate her birthday. I’m looking forward to seeing her, her family, and her new house 🙂
