“Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king and reigned for fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother was Jecoliah from Jerusalem. He behaved well in the eyes of God, following in the footsteps of his father Amaziah. He was a loyal seeker of God. He was well trained by his pastor and teacher Zechariah to live in reverent obedience before God, and for as long as Zechariah lived, Uzziah lived a godly life. And God prospered him.”
2 Chronicles 26:3-5
- In previous devotionals I have written about the importance of surrounding yourself with positive influences, as well as the importance of “finishing strong.” Uzziah is an example of someone who was doing things right and then ultimately failed. His positive influence, Zechariah, died and then Uzziah lost his faith. Ultimately he ended up disrespecting God and paid the price of living in quarantine for the rest of his life.
- Surrounding yourself with positive influences is critical.
- Finishing strong is more important than starting strong.
I have been unusually busy the past couple weeks. I really needed this quiet time this morning.
