Time: 2:11 PM

Weather: Overcast & rainy

Readings: Ezra, chapters 1-5

Noteworthy Verse:

“So the people started beating down the morale of the people of Judah, harassing them as they built.  They even hired propagandists to sap their resolve.  They kept this up for about fifteen years, throughout the lifetime of Cyrus king of Persia and on into the reign of Darius king of Persia.”

Ezra 4:4-5

Significance:

  • In this chapter, Israelites who had once been exiled came back together to build the temple of God.  They were doing so enthusiastically and exuberantly; both shouting and weeping for joy while building.  In this verse, their enemies have decided to sabotage their success and try to stop the Israelites from building the temple.  At first their enemies succeed and building ceases, however, eventually God intervenes and the building starts again.
  • This verse serves as a reminder that people may resent you for your faith, happiness, and success.  It is especially important to trust in God and continue to follow His ways during these times… instead of letting negative people sap your resolve.

Feelings:
I’m back from Colorado today.  I had an amazing time and I feel so blessed to have been able to see God’s creation out there.  Today I’m feeling a little overwhelmed by everything that has been waiting for me at home… but I’m excited to get started on it.
