Time: 9:00 AM

Weather: Hot and Humid 🙂

Readings: Luke, chapters 5-7

Noteworthy Verse:

“You don’t get wormy apples off a healthy tree, not good apples off of a diseased tree.  The health of the apple tells the health of the tree.  You must begin with your own like-giving lives.  It’s who you are, not what you say and do, that counts.  Your true being brims over into true words and deeds.”

Luke 6:43-45

Significance:

  • This verse is significant for our spiritual lives.  You don’t become a giving and loving follower of Christ by simply talking about it.  In order to produce healthy fruit (thoughts, words, actions) you have to heal your tree (soul) and then start living the life of a devoted Christ-follower.
  • This verse is also significant for our health. You don’t become a healthy person by simply talking about it.  In order to produce healthy fruit (hair, skin, nails, immune system, etc.) you have to heal your tree (body) and then start living the life of someone committed to health.

Feelings:
Several upcoming changes, stay tuned 🙂

Let’s talk about Vitamins!

What are they?
Vitamins are organic substances that are essential in small amounts for the health, growth, reproduction, and maintenance of one or more animal species (1)

Why are they necessary??
Vitamins must be included in the diet since they cannot be synthesized at all or in sufficient quantity in the body (1)

Are they natural?!?
Not necessarily. Vitamins naturally originate in plant tissues.  These days, however, many vitamins are synthesized, standardized chemical isolates. (2)

Are natural vitamins better than synthesized ones?
The United States Pharmacopoeia would say that synthetic vitamins are just as good as natural vitamins.  However, synthetic vitamins have not been proven to safely and fully replace all vitamin activities.  This may be due to the fact that synthesized vitamins are isolated, while natural vitamins are always present in the form of food vitamin-complexes. (3)

How do I know if I’m eating natural or synthetic vitamins?
If you’re eating a plant, then you’re eating natural vitamins.  If you’re eating a pill, then you need to read the label!

Natural Vitamin Name    vs.    Synthetic Vitamin Name
Vitamin A………………………………..Acetate
Vitamin B1…………….Thiamin Hydrochloride
Vitamin B5………………..Pantothenic Acid
Vitamin B6………………………..Pyridoxine
Vitamin B9…………………Folic Acid
Vitamin B12……………………Cyanocobolamin
Vitamin C……………..Ascorbic Acid

Weather: Feeling like Spring 🙂

Readings: Micah, chapters 6-7

Noteworthy Verse:

“But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women.  It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbor, and don’t take yourself too seriously – take God seriously.”

Micah 6:6-7

Significance:

  • This verse reminds us not to take ourselves too seriously – but to take God seriously.  One of the greatest sins is pride!  It is important to remember that we are nothing without God and that every good thing comes from Him.

Feelings:
Spring time feels like a time for new beginnings 🙂
